The largest Czech robotics competition for primary schools, VEX IQ Czech Open 2025, was once again held in the prestigious premises of Prague's O2 arena. The event, now in its seventh year, is part of the global VEX IQ Robotics Competition, which attracts more than 20,000 teams from 60 countries every year
The aim of the VEX IQ competition is to develop children's skills in STE(A)M (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics). Pupils are tasked with designing, building and programming robots, which they then take to regional and international competitions.
This year's VEX IQ Czech Open welcomed nearly 40 teams from the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Poland, Kazakhstan and Hong Kong. The competitive game called ‘Rapid Relay’ tested the participants' strategic thinking and technical skills. Teams tried to achieve the highest score by throwing balls through the goal, switching switches and cooperating with each other to pass balls before scoring the goal.
A unique feature of VEX competitions is the Team Challenge, where two teams that have never met before must agree on a common strategy to earn maximum points. They also competed in the Robotics Skills Challenge, which tests one team's ability to control a robot manually by remote control in the first round and then demonstrate the capabilities of an autonomously programmed robot in the second round.
An integral part of the judging is a jury interview where team members must defend their robot design and explain how their design fulfills their chosen strategy for the matches.
VEX IQ Czech Open 2025 highlights the importance of teamwork, critical thinking and an innovative approach in robotics and technology, preparing young generations for future challenges.
This year, for the convenience of the teams, the competition was held over two days. And how did it turn out?
